Plan of Action

The great City of Orange City has been going through changes like increasing population causing a need for more housing and development, but how much is too much? Are funds and manpower being used in the most efficient way possible? How can we improve the quality of our water? Can we increase and encourage small businesses? How about supporting everyone who makes our city safe, including police and first responders? After all, Orange City wouldn’t be what it is without the residents, businesses, and the community as a whole.

I have a plan of action, things that I wish to do, as Mayor, to help improve our city and support those within it.

Reducing new housing developments:

  1. First, we need to accept that there will be some new housing, especially due to the Live Local Act, enacted by the state of Florida
  2. Require more in-depth studies on the effects on wildlife habitats.
  3. Increase impact fees to allow us to afford the necessary upkeep that new development places on our infrastructure.
  4. increase the amount of land that the city buys for conservation.

Clean Water:

  1. Advocate to hire additional contractors to get the re-piping project finished quicker.
  2. Offer grants to offset the cost of water filtration systems for residents.
  3. Provide better oversight of the contractors performing the re-piping.

Supporting the police and firefighters by:

  1. Increasing pay. We want to retain the best and we want to recruit the best.

Encourage new businesses by:

  1. Promoting our city at industry events.
  2. Work with the City Manager, council, and local businesses to offer sustainable incentives such as grants, for small businesses.
  3. Streamlining permitting applications

Support historic preservation:

  1. Protect our historic buildings and heritage.
  2. Save the shuffleboard courts and clubhouse

Facilitating more community involvement:

  1. Hold monthly town hall forums on specific topics to open up communication between the city and the residents. As a community, we can look for solutions together. Everyone deserves to be heard.
